Privacy Talk

Monday 10 November 2008

Netsoc will host a talk on Tuesday evening to raise awareness of the risks associated with internet use, and to show you the various ways in which your privacy and rights online can be violated. The focus of the talk will be how to protect yourself when using the net.

We’ll give you an overview of the dangers of putting your personal information online, and how you can reduce the risk of it being stolen or misused. We’ll talk about the risks involved with social networking and how to reduce them, how to use encryption to securely transfer information, how to use proxies to surf the web anonymously, how to protect the information on your own computer, and how to minimise the amount of personal data you put on the web, whether accidentally or intentionally.

Everyone is very welcome, and the talk is aimed at the casual internet user, so no technical knowledge is needed beyond basic computer literacy! We do hope you’ll come along.

This talk is free, as with all Netsoc tutorials — however, you must sign up for this tutorial by mailing nosmo [at] netsoc.tcd.ie expressing your interest.

  • Time: Tuesday 11th November, 7PM
  • Place: Beckett Labs, Arts Block (beside the tables downstairs)
