Introduction

Here at Group 6 News we realise that it is our duty to inform the state of California about the potential natural risks present in our locale. It is for this reason that we have designed this site. We hope to provide information to the public about natural hazards such as Earthquakes and Fire and their knock-on effects on a community. Along with this we will give advice on how to deal with these incidents and how to best prepare for their arrival.

This page will act as a homepage for our site. It features recent news articles that will give you up to the minute information on any hazards in your area.

Upon clicking on a button to the left, you will be taken to a page that will give a description of the hazard in question, an outline of what risks are present and advice on what to do in the event of such an occurance.

There is also a page with a list of links to various sites (the webography) which contains more information on the subjects.

Fire rages over Hollywood Sign

A brush fire which occured near the Hollywood Sign in downtown Los Angles has given the opportunity for many amature photographers to capture some incredible photos (like the one to the right, taken by J.C. Johnson).
The fire, which engulfed about 160 acres of land close to the famous landmark, was started behind the Oakwood Apartment complex near Universal City on Friday afternoon. Two teenage boys from Illinois may face charges in connection with the fire.
Many eye witnesses photographed the blaze and quickly the internet was plagued with photos and videos of the spectacular event.
No one was injured in the blaze.

Fire near Hesperia forces evacuations from 200 homes

A 1,400-acre wildfire burning near Hesperia has forced about 200 residents to evacuate their homes. Over 400 firefighters fought the blaze with some residents only being able to watch and hope the winds wouldn't change direction and blow the fire directly towards their homes. No injuries have been reported.

Residents in the region are encouraged to stay tuned to their local radio stations for updates.
Additionally, people can call 909-355-8800.
