Club news:

Yorkshire

The dates are set. Yes, once again we're going to allow Queens organize their annual trip to the Dales and then rip off the plans for ourselves :). Seriously though, this is one of the best weeks in the Caving club calendar.. a massive gang from all the Irish university clubs head to the dales for a week of caving and fun. If you can even make it for a few days its worth flying over seperately (to leeds and then take a train -- it drops you *right* where we're staying in horton in ribblesdale). Some of the best caves in the UK&Ireland, especially if youre competent at SRT. If youre intersted, contact us ASAP (well be booking the ferry soon).!

AGM

The Club AGM will take place from 19:00-20:00 on Wednesday May 4th in the meeting room in Luce sports hall. All positions are open and we're constantly looking to get folks involved in running the club. If you've any interest, contact us beforehand for more information or just turn up at the meeting.

Club trip to Fermanagh

Next club trip will be to Fermanagh on the weekend of 22nd-24th April. Hopefully this will be a weekend to let people with some knowledge of SRT from the wall get a bit more hands-on experience in preparation for Yorkshire. Contact us by mail/at the wall if youd like to come along!

Student Caving Forum 2005!

It is nearly time for the annual Student Caving forum, hosted this year by UCD. Its taking place in Kinvara and runs from the 17th - 20th March. The SCF is the caving version of intervarsities. Its the one time of year we all get together to discuss issues/problems, go caving and have some fun. If you are interested in attending, please let us know so that we can organise transport (As always, any member is welcome to attend, regardless of how much or little caving experience you have!). More information is available from here: http://www.ucd.ie/caving/scf2005/

REC II & REC III.

REC courses will be taking place in Glasnevin the 2nd/3rd and 9th/10th April respectively. REC is an acronym for Rescue Emergency Care and REC 2 will teach you the basics of first aid, with emphasis placed on extreme sport injuries. For more information see here: http://www.cavingireland.org/News%20and%20Events/firstaidtraining.htm REC 2 is a prerequisit of REC 3 I'm afraid. Cost is 85euro for non-SUI members and approx 50euro for SUI members. If you are interested can you let me know as soon as possible because the courses will only go ahead if there is sufficient interest.

Caving trip to Fermanagh

The next club trip will be to Fermanagh on the weekend of the 28th-30th January. We'll be sharing the Boho community hall with the folks from Queens. We're hoping to give those of you that have been turning up to training on Wednesday nights a chance to put your SRT skills into practice on the trip, so please make an effort to show up over the next couple of weeks to practice a few more times at the wall. There will be other caving that weekend too, so beginners are welcome to attend (no experience required!!). Trip cost will be about 30euro. Email us or call by the wall to put your name down for it or find out more.

Christmas trip (17th-19th December)!

The next beginners trip will take place on the weekend of Friday 17th-Sunday19th December. We're heading for Clare again, and expect to bump into members from the QUBCC (Queens University Belfast Caving Club) if all goes to plan. Depending on interest, we may stay in Clare until the Monday and drive back up that afternoon. If you'd like to come on this trip, please get in contact with us via dupc2004 [-at-] gmail [-dot-] com . Places on the trip are limited, although we can increase them if one of you can provide a car for the weekend / are old enough for the club to hire a car in your name for the weekend.

Mallorca expedition!

Following our successful trip to the Berger last summer, we're looking for a slightly less strenuous expedition to introduce upcoming members of the various Irish university caving clubs to caving abroad -- so we're going to Mallorca! The trip will take place sometime over the two weeks following the Student Caving Foum (which takes place on st. patricks day weekend). It's currently being planned, so if you'd like to get involved or come along make yourself known to us!

Cavers Christmas Party! (Thursday December 2nd)

This years caving christmas party is on in Doyles, College Green (if you don't know where that is walk towards Pearse Street Garda station - you CAN'T miss it). Party starts at 9:30. If you get there early, don't worry we will arrive at some point, usually in drips and drabs. But if you get lonely find DIT or DCU, they'll mind you! Stay away from UCD though - they smell! :-)

Freshers trip: Doolin, Co. Clare. 19th-21st October 2004

The 3rd English (+Welsh + Scottish) University Caving Seminar

A few members of the club will be heading over to the English (+Welsh + Scottish) Student Caving Seminar which will be based about the YSS hut, approximately 14 miles from ingleton - ideally placed for caving in the dales. There will be caving, SRT training, competitions, BBQ and disco. Price is 15stg for accommodation+food, and the event takes place 26-28th Nov 2004.

China Caves International Symposium

The China Caves International Symposium will be held at the Royal Geographical Society in London from September 24-25. Yorkshire

As always Queens are heading for Yorkshire and a few of us from TCD are going to hop on the bandwagon. SRT-tastic. If you fancy a 10day escape to the lovely Yorkshire Dales give one of the committee a shout.

AGM 2004

The club AGM will take place on Wednesday 21st April at 7:30 in Luce Hall. To reward you for not killing or severely hurting yourself, we, the club shall be buying drinks after the AGM. So, remember to bring your membership card with you! As always all places are up for grabs, so let our Secretary know in advance if you would like to run for a position.

The club will further subsidise the course for any members in first through third year.

Student Caving Forum 04 - Fermanagh

Our next BIG trip will be to Fermanagh for the Student Caving Forum taking place over the Easter Weekend. This year its being hosted by DCU. Our college pride is on the line folks. Time to show those other "universities" who is boss! The SCF is the one time a year when all the universities (North and South) get together along with quite a few English Unis, to battle it out in such intense competitions as: wellie throwing, table quiz, photo and caption. For those of you who might find this to challenging there will of course be plenty of caving. Trips will be orgainsed for both beginners and experienced - so if you haven't been caving yet (for shame) there will still be plenty for you to do. Also, there will be SRT competitions. More details about the event can be found here: http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~caving/SCF2004.jsp Cost will be cheap but will be finalised once I have an idea of numbers. Either reply or turn up at the wall THIS Wednesday.

2004 Student Caving Expedition (Gouffre Berger - France)

The plans have been set. The permit has been received. The students are heading to france this year! The trip is open to all, but anyone attempting to do some significant caving within the Berger will be expected to have the appropriate fitness to do so. There's a berger mailing list, and if you're interested in coming along you should get yourself on it and also get training fast! The permit is from the 21st - 31st of August, group gear is being arranged by the French group who have been putting work into arranging access etc.

The next caving trip will take place the 21st - 23rd November. This time we're going to Clare - Doolin to be precise. Deposits of e15 will be required and we will be collecting them next week. 2003 Student Caving Expedition (Romania)

Briefly, for the past two years running, caving trips have been organised to France and Slovenia with great success by the student caving clubs in Ireland. It is a chance for mainly student cavers to explore different caves in different environments. Cavers of all abilities are welcome but needless to say you would only do caves within your experience. (i.e if you've never SRT'd in cave before - you won't be learning there!). Even if you havnt caved before, its not too late to get started! This year's trip is to Romania. As there is a lot of organising involved, we need to know who is interested now. The proposed date is sometime in August. A lot more details have to be finalised so we'll will pass on more information soon. I would like to stress that this is not a Trinity organised trip, its a joined trip in which we take part. It is up to you to get yourself involved. Email us if youd be interested in coming, or drop by the wall some night soon!
