DU Potholing Club / Trips 2001-2002

Michaelmas term

Doolin, Co Clare. 12th October 2001

Freshers trip 2001 : Co. Clare 9 Students (several last min dropouts. initially planed for 12-15) attended the trip. The group stayed in Doolin hostel, and travelled by way of a 9 seater minibus (driven by kate) and brians car. Trips were made into Pol Dubh, Pol na Gree, Cullan II, and two different trips into Pol na gollum. When we arrived in back in Dublin after trip, we discovered we had accidentally taken two peoples bags that were also staying in the hostel!

Boho, Co Fermanagh. 23rd November 2001

12 Students (again, several last mind dropouts. initally planned for 15) were on the trip. We stayed in the Boho community centre, and arranged transport as per the trip to clare. We shared the hall with DCU caving club. Two trips into Marble arch show cave were made, although it was far from the show cave pathways we were. Both groups went as far as the wet wiggle before returning. (Note: Although it was o. season at the time, we arranged access for the club to the cave). On the Sunday, John G. abandoned the main group and went to pol tullyard with a group from DCU.

Hilary term

Doolin, Co Clare. 8th February 2001

The group consisted of 9 students and help from UCD Caving/Potholing club. (Travel was by two borrowed cars, and one hire-car). This time the club went for luxury accommodation, and hired one of Anne Frawleys cottages in doolin. In the course of the weekend, trips to cullan V, cullan II, poll na gcolm, doony- varden, glencurran were made.

Trinity term

Boho, Co Fermanagh. Bank holiday weekend ending 1st April

Student Caving Forum 2002 This years student caving forum was attended by 6 members of the club. (Due to the small numbers travelling, we arranged lifts with other clubs going up). The group stayed in Boho community centre, along with a plethora of groups from other clubs in the ROI, NI, and the UK. In the course of the weekend, there was lots of caving and various talks. The organizing of next years student caving forum has come to Trinity.

Agnahoo, Co Fermanagh. Weekend of April 28th

A small trip was made by 3 members of club, which was 1/2 that originally planning on attending. Due to bad weather, only one trip to poll tullyard was made in the course of the weekend. One night was spent in Agnahoo, and the other in a local friends house.
