DU Potholing Club / Trips 2005-2006

Michaelmas term

Fermanagh, 14th-16th October 2005

The first club trip of the year set off to co. Fermanagh, with a total of 9 people caving (John, Ash, Les, Luke, Ole, Burnd, Sonia, Rachel and Molly). We spent the first night in Agnahoo, joining QUBCC for a night braving the elements. Thankfully, the next night we moved back to our traditional stomping ground of Boho community hall where the facilities are entirely more agreable, with electricity, running water, toilets and showers. We got two fantastic trips done, one to the 'wet wiggle' in marble arch cave, and the second to the duck in poll na gollum of the boats. All seemed to have a good time, although perhaps next year we'll avoid spending a night in aghanoo until the summertime comes round :)

Irish Student Caving Forum '06, The event on the island! (Eniskillen, Co. Fermanagh)

This years student caving forum was organized by a fantastic team from QUBCC, who rented an entire Island (ferryman included!) for the event. It will be a hard one to top for next years organizers :) There were plenty of folk over from the UK, and all the dublin clubs were represented. A welcomed site was a bunch of members from the newly formed University of Ulster Jordanstown's caving club. Well done Jock! The events this year were exceptionally competative with clubs pulling out all the stops to win - novelty welly design, the squeeze machine and the srt race all had strong competators. Trinity put an end to QUBCCs reign as SRT chaps and took the golden helmet home thanks to Ash!
