How to use this applet:The applet is pretty straightforward.It basically consists of a sixteen page slide-show which is split up into three sections;squares, cubes and examples combining the two.
The first section allows for user interaction by means of two choice boxes.When the 'submit' button is pressed the calculations are done.Notes on the maths used in the applet:The concept which the applet deals with is the basic concept of factorising in algebra.It shows how the three formula for factorising,
a² - b² = (a - b )(a + b),
a³ - b³ = (a - b)(a² + ab + b²),
a³ + b³ = (a + b)(a² - ab + b²)
can be used for simplifying expressions.
