How to use this applet:
To use this applet the user simply has to enter in values for x and y in terms of t.
eg when writing x = t + 1, enter 1t + 1 in the box provided.
To get t in terms of x click on the button below and the answer will appear. When this is done for both x and y, click on the solve equation button and the resultin equation will appear below. To view a step by step worked example click the explanation button.
Notes on the maths used in the applet:
Instead of giving a direct relationship between x and y, an equation can be given in parametric form, where the variables are given in terms of a third variable, usually t.
eg x = 1t - 1 and y = 2t + 5
These equations are then converted into two equations in terms of t. Then by allowing them to equal each other the result is a new equation in terms of x and y.
