CS2013/CS3013 Group Projects and SVN

Posted by:Netsoc Posted on:Feb 6,2011

Netsoc is delighted to offer free Redmine project management and Subversion source code management to all users, with those doing the Computer Science group project in mind.

Being absolute experts in all things technical, we recommend that everyone taking on a big group programming project for the first time use some kind of source code management, whether you get it from us or not. We’re offering private access to your team members only, so you are free to work on sensitive code or material under an NDA without worrying about the whole internet finding out about it, as is the case with many free services like Github.

This will require a Netsoc account for everyone in your group, so if you or your team members don’t already have accounts, you can head over to the Netsoc room or meet any of our committee members and they’ll get you set up.

To get started with your Redmine project, simply head on over to http://code.matrix.netsoc.tcd.ie/ and sign in with your Netsoc account.

You can then create a private project with bug reports, a wiki, file uploading, and a browsable source code repository. From your project page you can also add users who are allowed to see the project. Note that they have to sign into Redmine at least once before they’ll appear in the list. In order to set up your repository you will have to email us with details.

Send an email to webmaster or support @ netsoc, asking for an SVN repository, giving the Netsoc usernames of those in your group.

Stay tuned for tutorials in the coming weeks on using SVN and Redmine.
