Retirement of matrix.netsoc.tcd.ie

After about a decade of loyal service, our oldest and most famous server, matrix, is ready to enter retirement.

Once the most powerful computer in Trinity College Dublin, matrix is a scarily huge Sun E450, donated to Netsoc at the start of the millenium by Sun Microsystems Ireland. As the admin team has finally finished migrating the services it ran to pastures anew, it is time for it to cease operation.

On the morning of Monday the 21st of November, a last attempt will be made to repair the disk array which was degraded after the power outage in College this summer. Afterwards, matrix will be shut down, and removed from hosting.
